(Vineyard Haven) Jules Worthington’s bright and bold oil paintings will be featured at Louisa Gould Gallery for the Vineyard Haven Gallery Spotlight Night this Friday, July 7th. Depicting seascapes and landscapes, Chilmark resident Jules Worthington’s work portrays “the humbling experience of standing before nature with her subtle variations and beauty, [an experience that] presents both excitement and the challenge to always be a student of nature.” – Jules Worthington. Excited and passionate about his current impressionist style of painting, Jules is dedicated to the rich legacy of the American Impressionist Tradition; these teachings encompass the enlightening perception associated with capturing the radiance of nature's light as color in art by exploring the use of pure color to express the effects and quality of light.

Educated at Tabor Academy, Jules graduated with a B.A. degree in art from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut and went on to receive his MFA degree from the University of Hawaii in 1966. Since then, he has studied in Greece, Aix en Provence, France, Cortona and Venice, Italy, and trained at the Cape Cod School of Art, which has heavily influenced his recent works.

Jules's work can be found in many private and corporate collections and has been shown in Honolulu, Los Angeles, Connecticut, Boston, and Virgin Gorda BVI. New to13 Beach Street Ext., Louisa Gould Gallery is excited to showcase a number of Jules’s original oil paintings. For Jules, “life is a continual learning experience that is directly reflected in the creative artist’s quest to capture the free human spirit. The artist who sits on the ‘Golden Egg’ is creatively dead.” Luckily for us, Jules Worthington has chosen to share the wealth, and his works are very much alive.
