PRESS RELEASE: (Martha's Vineyard) Louisa Gould Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of the exhibit, Sea & Land featuring new works by Christie Scheele, Paul Beebe, and Louisa Gould. The exhibit opens on August 7 and runs until August 27. The opening reception will take place on Saturday, August 9 from 5 to 7 p.m. Please visit the gallery to view new works, meet the artists, and enjoy light fare and refreshments.

Christie Scheele has shown on Martha's Vineyard since 1998; for years she showed her work at Carol Craven Gallery, followed by several years with Dragonfly. In the current Sea & Land exhibit, her oil on linen piece entitled Sungold is a view from Menemsha of the Elizabeth Islands, but mostly of golden late-day light refracted off atmospheric waves of thunderstorms. Menemsha Creek is another oil on linen and her latest rendition of a spot that she has painted a number of times, with this newest version created with a high contrast of near-navy blues and late summer gold-greens. Sky Over Sound is beautiful vistas of Beach Road in Oak Bluffs in the spring. Affinity Drive at Dusk is one of her solitary road pieces, with approaching headlights on an isolated road next to a darkening harbor creating a dream-like, narrative quality in the mist.

As a full-time painter, Christie Scheele's work has been collected nationally and internationally by hundreds of private and public collectors. These collections include the Queens Museum of Art, the Dorsky Museum, the Tyler Museum of Art, American Airlines, Waterford Crystal, Elaine Kamarck, Kelsey and Camille Grammar, and Howard and Ellen Greenberg. Her paintings were featured in the films Broken Flowers and Perfect Strangers, have appeared in Architectural Digest, and have been written about and reviewed extensively in the Hudson Valley and beyond.

A mid-career artist, Christie Scheele has been painting devotedly since receiving her BFA in 1980 and began exhibiting and selling her work in 1985. While getting her BFA, she spent a year on fellowship at the Royal Academy of Fine Art and the University Complutense of Madrid 1978-79.

Paul Beebe is a new Signature member of the American Society of Maritime Artists, (ASMA). There are three levels of membership, and Paul was voted not only as a new member but as a second level, Signature member. He has been visiting Martha's Vineyard for the past 25 years. He prefers to visit particular locations at different times of day to capture the pinnacle moment that Mother Nature is at her best. Paul's paintings range from sea to land and, oftentimes, incorporate both the ocean and coast. Other times, Paul is able to exquitely replicate nature, allowing the viewer to almost feel the movement of the ocean waves, such as in his 8 x 10 oil on linen called Light and Foam, or the rocking of the boat in his sweeping 43 ½ x 55 ½ oil on canvas called The Grand Banks. Paul's range in canvas size can fit any wall or nook.

Louisa Gould's yachting images of the recent 2014 Vineyard Cup Regatta capture the glory of yachting on the Vineyard. Louisa was, once again, the Official Photographer for this regatta sponsored by SAIL MV.

Louisa has raced in prestigious regattas around the world, but now photographs both racing machines and classic boats in many beautiful places world-wide. Louisa has printed sharp, action- packed color c-prints of local and visiting yachts, such as the Aieleen, Venture, and Sophie. Ms. Gould captures the beauty of the boats, as well as the shifting waves and idyllic Vineyard seascape as a backdrop. For example in the 8 x 12 color photo, Sailing Off East Chop, the East Chop lighthouse beckons just behind the yacht, Aieleen. Louisa has also included some brilliant sunrise and sunset shots, including a perfect 10 x 15 photo called Menemsha with the old Coast Guard Station.

Louisa has photographed yacht racing for fourteen years: for America's Cup teams, various newspapers, and numerous magazines. She also shoots boat portraits; she paints from these images for private clients. In addition, Ms. Gould is a proffessional photographer shooting other professional sports, fashion/portrait, and commercial photography.

Please join us for the opening reception on Saturday, August 9 from 5 to 7 p.m. The Louisa Gould Gallery is located at 54 Main Street in Vineyard Haven. Please call (508) 693.7373 or visit the website at www.louisagould.com to view the online show and for further information.
