Jeanne Campbell has photographed her entire life and studied photography at the International Center of Photography (ICP) and The New School in New York, in addition to, workshops in the American West and Europe. Jeanne splits her time between Newton, MA and the island, where she has summered for decades. Jeanne has worked as part of a team with her late husband, Malcolm, who until recently did all the post and printing for Jeanne's photographs. Jeanne says of her photographs, “I see pictures mentally – seeing the patterns, rhythms, contrasts of light and shadow, as others may react to music”. Jeanne will exhibit photographs from: Brazil, China, England, France, Galapagos, Holland, Iceland, Italy, Indonesia, Japan, Kenya, Korea, Netherlands, Nepal, Nevis, South Africa, Tanzania and Tibet.

Louisa Gould is an award winning published professional photographer who has been shooting full-time since 2001. Louisa studied mostly oil painting at both university and the Art Student League of New York. Louisa teaches photography workshops via Martha's Vineyard Workshops and offers private photography lessons. Louisa Gould has travelled to over 100 countries and has photographed both on assignment (editorial, corporate and sports) and for pleasure and lived overseas. There is nothing that intrigues Louisa more than truly getting off the grid and finding those vary rare locations that are unexplored. She says of photographing overseas, “ ..I take family and individual portraits which I love, but the added element of a foreign land and tongue intrigues and challenges me and is not only memorable but touching in a deeply human way. I learn not only about the other but in-turn about myself, in a self/other exploration, that is somehow enhanced by time and distance. The otherness strips us of some of our layers. I am very appreciative to these individuals and grateful to experience life in this way. There is the natural beauty each land can provide, however it is the people living everywhere that is the true essence of place. Witnessing individuals living their daily life without intruding is a blessing for me and I hope to share some of these moments with the viewer, in other words providing a narrative for the viewer.”

In this show Louisa will show images from: American Samoa, Antartica, Argentina, Australia, Bali, Burma/Myanmar, Cook Islands, Chile, Cuba, Egypt, Fiji, Haiti, India, Israel, Italy, Morocco, New Zealand, Rhodes, Palestine, Philippines, Spain, Turkey and Vietnam. Some of these are new images never before released with some other favorite travel photographs.

There will be an Artist Talk & Slide show with Louisa Gould to see even more images and have a chance to ask specific questions on Tuesday, June 23 at 5pm. The show will close on June 25.

In addition, the “ Kick-Off to Summer” annual Memorial Day group show has been extended to June 25, so please come and view two new shows at the Louisa Gould Gallery, located at 54 Main Street, Vineyard Haven, meet Louisa and Jeanne and enjoy light fare and refreshments. Please call
