JB Lamont
J.B. was born in 1973.
Martha's Vineyard has long been known as an artists' community. There
is a wealth and depth of artistic talent of all genes on the Vineyard.
JB Lamont is at home both on the island and with computers. JB is truly
a new media artist.
What is new media art? Good question. Let's ask the multimedia artist
and musician JB Lamont. " This new art in 3 Dimensions has opened up
more then just animations that we see at the box office. This new form
of Computer art is really starting to take off. With a plethora of 3D
programs from consumer to professional anyone can learn ways to express
themselves. There are many things to learn about the science of 3D but
with diligence, anyone can create beautiful and awe inspiring works of
art. Remember, you can create entire worlds right at your fingertips."
JB
received a degree in communications and produced a weekly TV show prior
to coming to the Vineyard. JB summered on Martha's Vineyard growing up,
so when he was asked to join a film company as their senior editor six
years ago, he moved to the island full time. In that timeframe the
company has won over 18 national awards and international for film
making. In JB's free time he is a drummer for a local band and enjoys
mixing audio tracks for the band and creating new 3D images of various
kinds. This is the latest hotspot in the artworld today. At ArtBasel
Miami Beach in December only a few of the galleries from around the
world were showing 3D art. In addition, JB is also one of the creative
minds behind a new island based company Longpoint Solutions. JB
provides the video, DVD authoring, editing and graphic design expertise
for companies, individuals and non-profits to create their own
promotional DVD's and shorts.
JB
creates new worlds via animation. The backgrounds, people and lighting
is all thought through and put together using various animation
programs. "I thinks it's incredible that I can create creatures and
people that move at my command from a blank screen", although he admits
it takes alot of his free time as he has been teaching himself these
programs usually late at night. Right now I'm working on a short about
a shark and sea creatures around Martha's Vineyard. A island kid will
be the voice of the shark. In addition, he is also creating still photo
renderings from animation. " I have total control from where the sun is
in my shot, to where my actor stands, to what time of day and how the
tide comes and goes. You will be seeing alot art coming from 3D
renderings sooner rather then later. The artist is in total control of
the medium."
