Louisa Gould Gallery revisits the work of local artists
July 1, 2013
The Louisa Gould Gallery celebrates all things Martha's Vineyard this Friday, July 5, with a grand finale reception of the show "Revisiting Artists of Martha's Vineyard." The exhibit will feature more than 80 new works by local artists.
The show, which first opened Memorial Day weekend, has been revamped with new artwork to replace pieces that were sold. Artist and owner Louisa Gould says she made the show extra large this year, "To provide the artists in the show a second audience; the Fourth of July weekend draws a different crowd." She says it also "allows others a second viewing to really take in all the artwork." Plus, Ms. Gould just gave birth to a baby boy, so revisiting the first show allowed her more time to rest and enjoy her family.
Although the Louisa Gould Gallery specializes in contemporary and 20th century Vineyard art, marine art, and photography, Friday's show will include sculpture, oils, pastels, and encaustic work.
"Most of the subject matter is Vineyard-related, but also includes paintings of Italy, New York, and Boston, and universal subjects such as flowers, beaches, and yachts," says Ms. Gould. She says there will be "strong new work by our stable of Island artists in addition to a few new artists."
Those featured include Paul Beebe, Leslie S. Self, Donna Blackburn, John Holladay, Laura Roberts, Alan Eddy, Adriano Manocchia, Maya Farber, and Warren and Debra Gaines, who have shown their work at the gallery for many years.
New artists debuting work at the gallery are Fran Dropkin, Nick Paciorek, and Ann Rozhan.
"Overall it is a vibrant show depicting the Island in beautiful colors and hues," says Ms. Gould.
In addition to artwork, cocktails and refreshments will be served, and the Celtic ensemble River Heart will give a special performance following the reception, from 7:30 to 8:30 pm.
"Revisiting Artists of Martha's Vineyard" will be on exhibit through July 17. For more information, please call 508-693-7373, or visit louisagouldgallery.com.
